Being detained in heavy traffic led Baltimore City’s “Cat Granny” to a $100,000 FAST PLAY Cash Tree win.
Being stuck in traffic can be a nightmare, but it became a dream come true for a Baltimore City resident when it led her to the destination where she found a $100,000 winning FAST PLAY Cash Tree ticket.
It was on Aug. 16 that an occasional Lottery player was detained because of heavy traffic in downtown Baltimore and she ended up on Baltimore Street. She was thirsty and when she looked around, the first place she saw was a Crazy John’s restaurant. She pulled over and headed inside.
“I play Lottery sometimes and I noticed they had Lottery in the back,” said “Cat Granny,” a name she chose to tell her story anonymously. “I like to get games in places I never been before and I’ve never been to Crazy John’s.”
So, she headed to the Lottery area of the store and purchased a $10 FAST PLAY Cash Tree ticket because of the trees on the game.
“There’s this story that’s stuck with me over the years about a man who would leave his worries at a tree by rubbing the leaves,” she told Lottery officials Sept. 2 when she claimed the prize. “And, when I saw the trees on the ticket, I was drawn to it.”
“Cat Granny” bought the one FAST PLAY ticket and a couple of scratch-offs and headed home. That night she scratched the tickets and looked over the FAST PLAY game. One of her numbers matched one of the winning numbers and the prize underneath read $100,000.
“I just couldn’t comprehend it!” she said. “I kept looking at the numbers and looking at the trees and it just wasn’t processing.”
In disbelief, “Cat Granny” showed the ticket to her niece, who confirmed that it was definitely a $100,000 winner.
The winner, still in a bit of shock, shared with Lottery officials that she plans to use her winnings to help family, pay down some debt and, of course, get some treats and toys for her kitties at home, hence her alias, “Cat Granny”.
The FAST PLAY Cash Tree game, that launched in July, now has 11 top prizes at the $100,000 level remaining as well as all six of the $50,000 second-tier prizes. Also up for grabs are thousands of prizes ranging from $10 to $10,000.
Crazy John’s, at 410 East Baltimore Street, will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
