Playing Pick 5 using numbers associated with relatives’ birthdates resulted in a $50,000 win, giving a grandmother from Baltimore the resources she needs to do something she’s long wanted to do: take a vacation with all of her grandchildren.
The public safety employee plays regularly, though not every day, and typically plays a combination associated with the birthdays of close relatives.
She played 11694 for the evening drawing on Aug. 30 and matched a straight bet and a boxed bet, though she gave the boxed ticket to her husband to claim.
When she realized the ticket was a $50,000 winner, the first thing she did was call her mom, who initially thought she heard the daughter say she’d won $5,000.
“I called my mother and did a little happy dance,” she said, clarifying that it was, in fact, a $50,000 win.
“We had to let it sink in!” she said.
Although the winner knows she wants to take her grandkids on a vacation with her prize, she hasn’t yet decided where or when.
She bought her winning ticket at the Royal Farms store at 6201 Pulaski Highway in Baltimore. The store receives a $500 bonus.
