Virginia Tow Truck Driver Picks up Load of Cash

Lucky winner claims $50,000 top prize on Diamond Mine X9 scratch-off

A Virginia tow truck driver who occasionally travels to Maryland to visit a friend will often stop at the nearest Maryland Lottery retailer to buy games. During a recent visit, he was drawn to a Diamond Mine X9 instant ticket and now he’s $50,000 richer.

The 43-year-old found his top-prize scratch-off win at Brighton Beer & Wine located at 225 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg. The Gloucester, Va. man told Lottery officials that he was very happy when he learned his $5 instant ticket was a top-prize winner. The married father of two, who plans to pay off debts with his winnings, shared the exciting news of his $50,000 prize with his wife and children.

When not driving his tow truck or at home with his family, the winner works small jobs as a mechanic and a painter.

Brighton Beer & Wine benefits from his lucky win, too. The Montgomery County store will receive a $500 bonus for its role in selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The Diamond Mine X9 game went on sale on Feb. 21 with eight $50,000 top prizes. There are still four unclaimed top prizes remaining along with 10 $5,000 prizes.
