A New Church, Virginia, woman who favors Maryland Lottery games, crossed state lines and won big. Typically, she plays Multi-Match, but this time she opted for Bonus Match 5 and walked away $50,000 richer.
On Saturday, July 12, the resident of Virginia’s portion of the Delmarva peninsula was out running errands when she stopped at Kings Creek Market in Maryland’s Eastern Shore community of Princess Anne to play her Lottery games. The big winner prefers the Maryland Lottery and since she lives just south of the border, it’s easy for her to play. She played three combinations on Bonus Match 5 for $2 using her Multi-Match numbers on one line and quick picks on the remaining two.
“After that I went home and took a nap, woke up that evening and checked my ticket,” she said. “I saw my numbers matching and thought, ‘I must still be sleepy’.”
In shock, the winner called her daughter to see if she was seeing the numbers correctly.
She wasn’t dreaming, though. She hit on the quick pick numbers.
“I told her she had all of the numbers, and what does it mean?” said the daughter, who accompanied her mother to claim the prize July 24 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “My mom said, ‘It means I won’.”
After the reality of a $50,000 win sunk in, the Virginia player looked into cashing her prize at one of the casinos in Maryland, but realized she needed to visit Lottery headquarters to claim such a large amount.
When meeting with Lottery officials, the winner, who’s expecting her first grandchild, said she’s going to get her daughter a car with the winnings, and, of course, treat herself. She also plans to save some of it.
The Kings Creek shop at 10806 Market Lane in Princess Anne receives a $500 bonus, equal to 1% of the prize amount.
