A visit with dear friends is worth a long drive, and was especially so for a Frederick County woman last week when she made a few stops along the way to and from her destination and bought Lottery tickets as she went.
The result was a $100,000 win on a $5,000,000 Fortune scratch-off.
“I decided to buy tickets from several different stores,” the computer tech said on Jan. 20 as she claimed her big prize at Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore.
As she was driving from Frederick County to Annapolis to spend time with friends last week, she tried her Lottery luck.
“Even though it wasn’t too long of a drive, I stopped once for gas and bought a ticket. Then I stopped for a snack and bought a ticket,” she said.
It was hours later, though, as she was about to head home, that she found the good fortune she’d been seeking.
“I’d bought a couple tickets by then, which was enough,” she said. “But I was thirsty, so I looked for one more place to stop before I got on the highway.”
So ultimately, it was thirst that brought her to the 7-Eleven at 611 Taylor Avenue in Annapolis. And it was the $50 that she’d won earlier that day that led her to pick the $5,000,000 Fortune game as her final Lottery ticket of the day.
“I’m glad I decided to scratch it in my car instead of there in the store,” she said, adding, “Because I just fell apart. If I wasn’t sitting, I would have fallen down.”
The $5,000,000 Fortune ticket is a $50 instant game that made its debut in February 2025 with three $5 million top prizes. One of those top prizes remains unclaimed as of Feb. 21, 2026, and the ticket also still has four $100,000 prizes that have not yet been claimed, along with five $50,000 prizes and thousands more prizes that range from $50 to $10,000.
