Washington County Woman Claims $50,000 Lottery Prize On First Ticket Buy

A Washington County woman’s first-time playing Bonus Match 5 coincides with her first very first win on a Maryland Lottery ticket. At $50,000, it was a big one.

There was no rhyme or reason for why she chose to play. She just wanted to try her luck. Thanks to a Bonus Match 5 quick pick ticket, her first Maryland Lottery win came in the form of a $50,000 top-prize in the July 31 drawing.

The homemaker of 22 years bought her ticket at Byers Stop ’N’ Go at 152 North Burhans Boulevard in Hagerstown.

She was at home when she learned of her big win. After remembering that she bought the ticket, she had her husband check it for her. When he told her it was a big winner, she didn’t believe him.

He had to spend a few minutes convincing his her that he was, indeed, serious about the ticket being a $50,000 winner. After the winner got over her absolute disbelief, she made arrangements to claim the prize, which she did Sept. 16 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

She said upon claiming the prize she plans to put her winnings into savings.

Byers Stop ’N’ Go receives a $500 bonus for selling the $50,000 winning Bonus Match 5 ticket.
