Washington County Woman Plans Home Renovations After $50,000 Win

A relative newcomer to Lottery scratch-offs who lives in Washington County got a big surprise on a relatively new scratch-off game: a $50,000 prize.

“I just started playing scratch-offs about a year ago,” the public safety employee said March 6 when she claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “It’s just something fun to do every once in a while.”

She typically buys a ticket or two when she has some extra cash on hand, and on a recent visit to the Rocs convenience store and gas station at 18404 Maugans Avenue in Hagerstown she bought a $10 Money scratch-off.

While she didn’t win one of the ticket’s $250,000 top prizes, she was plenty happy with her $50,000 win.

“I’ve got a fixer-upper of a house,” she said, adding that there are always a few projects that need to be taken care of, and the extra money will knock out a few of them.

The winner says she plans to keep on playing because it’s fun: “Yeah, why not?”

The Money ticket launched in February, and as of March 6, all five of its $250,000 top prizes remain unclaimed, along with three more $50,000 prizes, 22 prizes of $10,000 and thousands of additional prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
