Washington, D.C. Scratch-off Fan Crosses State Lines, Wins $100,000

Claims top prize on Power 10s game

A 30-year-old scratch-off fan is grateful she decided to shop in Maryland in early December. The Washington, D.C. resident crossed the state line into Hyattsville and, while shopping, bought one Power 10s scratch-off. She returned home $100,000 richer.

The lucky lady purchased her $10 winning instant ticket from the Langley Shop located at 8001 New Hampshire Avenue in Hyattsville. Instead of pocketing her game and continuing to shop, the loyal player decided to scratch off the instant ticket in the store.

On each line of the game, she revealed a “10” symbol indicating she automatically won the prize she next revealed. The married mother of one added up all of the amounts and discovered she held a $100,000 top-prize winning instant ticket!

“When I saw all of the numbers, I thought, ‘This can’t be real,’” she said.

The winner immediately left the store and shared the news with her husband and other family members. After speaking with Maryland Lottery officials, she decided to wait until after the New Year to claim her prize. The happy woman put her scratch-off in a safe, enjoyed the holidays and claimed her $100,000 prize this week.

“What a way to start the New Year,” she said, smiling.

Asked what she might do with her windfall, the player said she isn’t sure yet and will put the funds in the bank.

The Prince George’s County retailer that sold the winning scratch-off, Langley Shop, has reason to celebrate, too. For selling the $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the business will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery.

The Power 10s game went on sale in November and still has six $100,000 top prizes remaining along with 15 $10,000 prizes and 34 unclaimed $1,000 prizes.
