A former Maryland resident wins the first $100,000 top prize on the $100,000 Crossword game while visiting his father in Charles County in September. Both father and son enjoy playing scratch-offs, but this time the son brought home the big win.
The player who now lives in West Virginia only plays scratch-offs occasionally. He was visiting with his father and assisting him with some errands when they stopped at a Dash-In in Lothian to grab some snacks. While there, the two decided to also purchase some scratch-off tickets, including the $10 game that yielded the big win.
“I liked the look of the $100,000 Crossword game and that it was new,” the big winner said Oct. 2 after claiming the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “So, I bought one of those and few other games.”
Before leaving the store, the two began to scratch the prize check area of their games and scan them. When the winner scanned the crossword game, he was shocked to see a “Go to the Lottery” message.
“It said I was a $100,000 winner,” smiled the winner. “It was unbelievable.”
The excited player showed his father, who joked about early retirement. But the winner did say he would definitely share some of the prize money with his dad. He also said he plans to invest some of the winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Dash-In convenience store at 1378 Mt. Zion Marlboro Road in Lothian. The Charles County Lottery retailer will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the $100,000 winning ticket.
The $100,000 Crossword game launched in August with nine $100,000 top prizes, there are now eight remaining. In addition, all 13 of the $10,000 prizes are up for grabs as well as thousands of prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000.
