Western Marylander Finds ‘Shocking’ Power Cash Scratch-off Prize

Hagerstown woman takes home game’s $50,000 top prize

The Power Cash scratch-off game continues to electrify players, yielding another $50,000 top prize to a Western Maryland woman. This is the fourth top prize claimed since the game went on sale in February.

A retired Hagerstown government employee was grocery shopping in late March when a tingly feeling came over her, leading her to purchase some scratch-offs. She’s partial to the Power Cash scratch-off because she’s won small amounts on the game in the past. So, she bought four of the instant tickets and played them later at home.

“I was sitting on the couch, scratching away, when I saw the lightning bolt on one of the games,” she said. “I saw the 5 and then more and more zeros.”

The big winner scratched off a $5,000 prize, but beneath it was a “10X” multiplier that increased her prize to $50,000. She immediately shared the news with her son by sending him a text message with a picture of the scratch-off.

“I thought she was kidding, to be honest,” said the winner’s son. He accompanied her to Lottery headquarters to claim the prize. “But it was real and it couldn’t have happened to a better person.”

The winner hid her lucky instant ticket in an old purse until she could make it to Baltimore. “I would look at it every day, to make sure it was still there,” she said, smiling.

The mother and grandmother told Lottery officials that she plans to use her winnings to help some family members and will save the rest.

Also celebrating in this win is Martin’s #6444 located at 18726 North Pointe Drive in Hagerstown. The Lottery retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

The Power Cash game still has four $50,000 top prizes remaining, along with 13 $5,000 prizes and many others ranging from $5 to $1,000.
