A Worcester County man likes to play a variety of Lottery games so he was excited when he heard about the Holiday Raffle.
“I liked the odds of winning,” he said, referring to the 1 in 237,206 chance of winning $1 million, not to mention even better odds on 10 prizes at the $100,000 level and three at $50,000.
He didn’t get the $1 million, but he did end up with one of the 10 winners at the $100,000 level, and claimed his prize Jan. 13 at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The retired federal worker purchased a few tickets throughout the length of the game and one a final one in late December at the Ocean City Food Lion at 9936 Stephen Decatur Highway in Berlin. That’s the ticket made him a big winner.
According to the Eastern Shore resident, he was home drinking his Saturday morning coffee the day after the Jan. 2 drawing and decided to check his ticket. He was stunned to discover his ticket with number 186723 was worth so much money.
“I woke up my wife to tell her the good news,” he said.
The avid golfer also won a $50 on one of his tickets. He said he plans on putting his winnings into his savings account.
The Maryland Lottery Holiday Raffle ran Nov. 3 through Jan. 1, with winning numbers drawn on Jan. 2, including for a top prize of $1 million and 10 prizes of $100,000 each. The winning numbers – including 10,000 for prizes of $50 to $500 – were selected from among the 237,206 sequentially numbered tickets sold.
Tickets, numbered 000001 through 237206, were $20 each and were available at Maryland Lottery retailers across the state.
A list of all winning numbers is available on the Holiday Raffle page at mdlottery.com, and the page also has a search tool that can be used to check specific numbers to see if they are winners. Holiday Raffle tickets can also be checked by scanning them with the Maryland Lottery app, or at any Lottery retailer. Winners have 182 days from Jan. 2 to claim their prizes.
