$50,000 Pick 5 Winner from Baltimore Has Eye on Retirement

Winning ticket will ease the path

A public school construction supervisor from Baltimore has arrived, financially, at a place where he could retire immediately, thanks to a $50,000 win in the Maryland Lottery’s April 25 Pick 5 drawing. He plans to stay at his job for another 18 months to two years, however, as planned.

“I can go now, but I’m going to stick with it,” the loyal player said, adding, “I’m going to fulfill my obligations and commitments.”

The windfall puts him in a good place financially as he prepares for retirement. He recently had his kitchen remodeled and anticipates paying that bill off early. In addition, he has plans to pay down his mortgage a little earlier than expected.

“You have to spend it wisely, or things will get ahead of you,” he said. The city resident is not a first-time big winner, having won $10,000 a few years ago and $5,000 a few times. The Pick 5 win, however, is his biggest to date. That said, he doesn’t want it to be his biggest ever. He’ll continue to play, he said, while claiming his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “I played some before I got here. Hopefully, I’ll be back.”

Sharing in his good fortune is Royal Farms #047 at 12545 Eastern Avenue in Middle River. The Lottery will give the Baltimore County store a bonus of $500, equal to 1% of the prize, for selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
