Glen Burnie housekeeper receives top-prize surprise
An Anne Arundel County couple visited Lottery headquarters on Tuesday with a top-prize winning Holiday Cash scratch-off in hand. The excitement delivered by its $50,000 prize was still quite evident on their faces. The win, their biggest ever, had occurred the day before.
“I just kept saying, ‘No,’” recalled the Glen Burnie woman who had scratched off the $5 game. Her boyfriend, who had purchased the instant ticket for her at a Glen Burnie retailer, continued to try to convince the housekeeper that Lottery luck had indeed paid a visit. “He kept trying, but I refused to believe it was true. How could this happen to us?”
The pair admitted that this back-and-forth conversation was very different from that which usually accompanied his Lottery purchases. “I usually give him a hard time about buying tickets,” she said. “Just last week, I finally gave in and told him that if he was going to buy them, to get one for me.”
Her inability to accept the fact of their $50,000 win was finally defeated by the readout on her boyfriend’s smartphone Lottery app. The lucky lady let the joy take control. “It is such a happy thing for us, we are so lucky.”
Those good feelings are shared by the owners of Check Cash Depot #026, the Lottery retailer that sold the $50,000 top-prize winning instant ticket and will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for doing so. That lucky establishment is located at 7560 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie.
Holiday Cash joined the Lottery’s lineup of instant games in October 2023 with eight top prizes. Four $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-offs are still in circulation, along with five $5,000 second-tier winners.
