Player’s horses cross finish line in exact order for $28,464 win
A Baltimore County man couldn’t hide his smile when he entered the Lottery Winner’s Circle after claiming a $28,464 Racetrax prize. The lucky man, who has played his own set of numbers for a while in both the Racetrax and Pick games, saw his persistence pay off.
It was late last week when the Randallstown player stopped at a local 7-Eleven in Pikesville to play his favorite Lottery games, including Racetrax. He placed a $1 Superfecta bet on four horses to run six races and added the Bonus multiplier to the ticket. And, he played at the right time, taking advantage of the Racetrax Triple Crown promotion that runs through June 9. Racetrax players receive $1 off each $6 purchase as part of the promotion; he received $2 off his wager.
Happy with his purchase, the shopping / delivery driver for a major retailer went home, not checking his ticket until the next day. He was in for a big surprise.
“When I checked the Racetrax ticket, the sounder went off that tells you it’s a winner,” he said, smiling. “And then, seeing the ‘Congratulations’ message, I was blown away.”
The married father and grandfather’s horses — 4,10, 2 and 5 — crossed the finish line in that order for a $9,488 payday. Because he played the Bonus, which was a 3X multiplier, his winnings jumped to $28,464. He immediately ran to tell his wife.
“This win really came at the right time,” he said to Lottery officials when he claimed the prize. “My wife was so happy and thankful.”
The excited winner claimed his prize Wednesday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. He said that a couple of weeks ago, he also won playing Pick 5 using the same numbers. The loyal player plans to pay some bills with his winnings and will save the rest.
Sharing in that excitement is the Lottery retailer that sold the winning ticket. The 7-Eleven located at 1 Greenwood Place in Pikesville earns a bonus of $284.64 from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more.
