Playing lottery was not on even on the agenda for a Potomac man, but a friend’s recommendation made him change his mind. The result: a $50,000 top prize win on the $5 FAST PLAY Double Win game.
The Montgomery County man visited Safeway supermarket at 10104 River Road in Potomac on May 19 and purchased the ticket. Just one look was all it took and he realized he had a big winner.
He claimed the windfall Aug. 1 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
His numbers included 39, which had the prize amount $50,000 underneath it. Thirty-nine was also listed as a winning number, which is what secured the top prize.
When asked of his plans, he’s simply going to use part of the money to visit his home country of Pakistan. Safeway receives a $500 bonus equal to 1% of the prize amount.
On sale since July 3, 2023 the FAST PLAY Double Win game started with 20 prizes at the $50,000 level, of which 13 remain unsold.
