Baltimore Man Wins $30,000 Top-Prize on New Candy Cane Cash Game

A Lottery scratch-off enthusiast from Baltimore was offered suggestions for when purchasing tickets. He was told to look for recently released games. Heeding said advice, he bought three Candy Cane Cash scratch-off tickets, and one of them ended up being a $30,000 top-prize winner.

While focusing on newly released tickets is a practice many players follow, the odds of winning any prize are unaffected by whether a game is new to the market, or one that has been on sale for many months. Indeed, another school of thought among players is to look for tickets that have been on the market for an extended period.

Nonetheless, going with a new game paid off for the Baltimore City native, who bought his tickets at the High’s convenience store at 4525 Norrisville Road in White Hall. He nearly missed out on the big win as he initially purchased only two of the $3 tickets and neither was a winner. But he had a feeling and went back to purchase a third one.

And that’s the one that gave him a $30,000 payday.

The winner, a delivery driver for Amazon, said he is very excited about his top-prize win. He plans to use his winnings to make some repairs to his car. He also plans to use it to pay bills, fix the furnace in his home, travel and buy new video games.

The High’s store, meanwhile, receives a $300 bonus for selling the ticket.

Candy Cane Cash was launched Oct. 17 with five other holiday-themed tickets. This top prize is the first of six top prizes, leaving five $30,000 prizes unclaimed.
