A Powerball jackpot that had been building for more than three months was won in the Aug. 12 drawing on a ticket sold in Illinois. Ticket sales pushed the final jackpot amount to an annuity value of $1.040 billion, the eighth-largest in Powerball history, with a cash value of $450.5 million. The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67, 69; and the Powerball was 9.
Across Maryland, the Aug. 12 drawing produced 66,224 winning tickets with prizes ranging from $4 to $50,000. A $50,000 winning ticket was sold on Aug. 12 at Discount Tobacco Zone, located at 3905 Branch Avenue in Temple Hills.
The roll began after the last Powerball jackpot was won in the May 2 drawing. In the three-plus months since then, Powerball players in Maryland won more than $8.8 million in prizes, including 21 tickets worth $50,000 or more.
Maryland had three $1 million Powerball winners during that span. One of those prizes was won in the July 29 drawing and was claimed by an anonymous Bowie State University graduate who nicknamed himself “Powerball Bulldog.” The other two $1 million winners came on a ticket for the Aug. 10 drawing sold at Harvest Fare Supermarket in Fallston and a ticket for the Aug. 1 drawing sold at a 7-Eleven on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park. Both of those prizes remain unclaimed.
Maryland also had a $150,000 winner in Columbia; a $100,000 winner in Edgewood; and 16 winners of $50,000 in Annapolis (2), Belcamp, Beltsville, Bethesda, Catonsville, Gaithersburg, Greenbelt, Hyattsville, North Beach, North East, Nottingham, Sykesville, Temple Hills, Waldorf and Wheaton.
Powerball sales in Maryland from May 3 through Aug. 12 totaled more than $39.4 million. Lottery retailer commissions on those sales were more than $2.2 million; and the estimated return to State programs and services (25 cents of each dollar worth of sales) totaled more than $9.8 million. In Fiscal Year 2026 (July 2025 through June 2026) Powerball accounted for 6% of the Maryland Lottery’s total sales ($161.7 million out of $2.676 billion).
