A retired construction worker from Baltimore City came across a $100,000 payday, thanks to his purchase of a Powerball quick pick ticket with the Power Play and Double Play options selected.
He played five sets of numbers for the Oct. 3 drawing, paying the extra $2 per number set for the two options, bringing his total ticket price to $20.
Then he matched four of the first five numbers drawn plus the number on the red Powerball, for a third tier win, which gave him a base prize of $50,000. But the randomly selected Power Play multiplier for Oct. 3 drawing was X2, giving him a total prize of $100,000.
The Baltimore retiree bought his ticket at Speed Mart located at 7501 Harford Road in the city. He was pretty happy when checked his ticket later that night and learned that he had matched five numbers including the Powerball. Even more intriguing, according to the winner, each of the matching numbers is a birthdate of a loved one. Excited about his discovery, he called and told a friend of his new found $100,000 fortune.
He plans to use his winnings to take his girlfriend on a cruise vacation. In his spare time, he enjoys riding his ten-speed bicycle.
