Acting on Whim Leads Frederick Man to $31,233 Racetrax Prize

Lucky fan wins with Trifecta bet

A 56-year-old Frederick County fan of both the Racetrax and Keno monitor games found a lucky win this week playing the horses. On his way to work, he stopped at a store for snacks and bought a Racetrax ticket that put him over the finish line with a $31,233 prize.

The Frederick County metro employee said something told him to play Racetrax when he entered Sheetz #242 in Frederick. Acting on a whim, he placed a $15 Trifecta bet with the numbers 12, 10 and 11 for 15 races. And, luckily for him, the loyal player only had to spend $13 due to the current $6 for $5 Racetrax promotion that gives players a $1 discount for every $6 Racetrax purchase. The promotion runs through Sunday and will resume for each leg of the Triple Crown.

After purchasing his ticket, the Frederick resident headed to work. He later discovered he was headed to the Lottery Winner’s Circle.

“I checked the winning numbers on the website using my phone,” said the winner. “I was shocked because I really didn’t expect to win anything.” The loyal player said he was so excited that he had to recheck his ticket a few times to be sure he won. His ticket was a worth a whopping $31,233.

Familiar with the Lottery claiming process, the married father of two got an appointment to claim his prize the next day. When he got home from work, he shared his great news with his wife.

“She doesn’t really like me to play,” said the winner. “But, she was excited that I won.”

When claiming the prize on Thursday, the lucky player told Lottery officials that he had no immediate plans for his fortune. “I’ll decide later,” he said.

Sheetz #242 located at 1600 Rosemont Avenue in Frederick also wins. The business will receive a $312.33 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize.
