Lucky Charm Aids in $50,000 Win for Carroll County Mom

Westminster’s Kirbi Day celebrates a $50,000 Ca$h To Go! top-prize scratch-off win.

Claims top prize on Ca$h To Go! game

Kirbi Day of Westminster represents the textbook definition of a once-in-a-while Lottery player. She will sometimes go a month between purchases. Luckily for her, Kirbi’s son – her lucky charm – was by her side when she bought a scratch-off Wednesday. She won a $50,000 top prize!

“I was in the Royal Farms in Sykesville picking up dinner,” said the 37-year old. “My son was with me, and just an hour or so earlier we’d been talking about how he is my lucky charm.  I was remembering that conversation when I saw the Lottery display.”

Scratching off her $5 Ca$h To Go! instant ticket later that evening, Kirbi was pleased to see that the first number to match was 12. “Twelve has always been my favorite number.” On the final line of available numbers, she uncovered another 12 – the match she needed to win.

“I scratched the prize and saw a 5, which meant I got my money back, then a zero, which meant a $50 win! Then, the zeroes kept on coming.”

Kirbi, who works in the auto repair business, will use some of her $50,000 prize to buy a much-needed new car. She plans to set aside the remainder for her son’s education.

The $5 Ca$h To Go! game debuted in December with eight $50,000 top prizes. The winning scratch-off that Kirbi purchased from Royal Farms #174 at 1261 Liberty Road in Sykesville leaves four still in circulation. Her Lottery luck was also good news for the management at Royal Farms.  The store will receive a $500 bonus for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off.
