Baltimore Man Plays Stranger’s License Plate Number, Wins $25,000

Winner claims Pick 5 prize on 50-cent straight bet

Selecting a set of Pick 5 numbers at random from a stranger’s license plate was a winning strategy for a player from Baltimore City. He plays Lottery games frequently, usually Pick 4 and Pick 5, and often sees “not a winner” when he checks tickets for prizes. But this time, his new strategy for selecting Pick 5 numbers paid off with a $25,000 prize.

The 76-year-old found Lottery luck waiting at Jolly’s Food & Convenience Mart located at 1500 North Monroe Street in Baltimore. He purchased one 50-cent straight bet ticket in the June 22 evening drawing on the license plate numbers and the rest is history.

The happy winner, who retired 10 years ago, told Lottery officials he will put his winnings in the bank to boost his savings.

Jolly’s Food Mart also benefits from its lucky ticket sale. The Baltimore City Lottery retailer will receive a $250 bonus for its role in selling a winning Pick 5 ticket worth $25,000.
