A Maryland Lottery regular from Baltimore who has won a few dollars every now and then got a solid surprise in the April 6 Powerball drawing: a $50,000 third-tier prize for matching four of the five first balls plus the red Powerball.
“I’ve been playing a long time!” he said April 21 when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, youngest of his grown children at his side.
His daughter said she is also an avid Lottery player and he reported she helps him with his Lottery playing. For his Powerball windfall, he simply handed her the ticket and asked her to check it using the MD Lottery app on her phone. When she gave him the news, he was feeling grateful.
“I thank God!” he said.
Plans for the winnings are fairly mundane, as the winner anticipates putting the money in a savings account. After that, he’ll continue playing in hopes of winning again.
And his daughter said she’s going to do the same.
“I’m going to buy some more now,” she said.
The winning ticket was purchased at the Soda Pop Shop at 1026 Ingleside Avenue in Catonsville.
