A Maryland Lottery player from Baltimore knows that real happiness comes from love, companionship and family, not money from winning the Lottery.
“You can’t buy happiness, but you can rent it!” he said Dec. 19 when he claimed a $50,000 prize he won on the evening Pick 5 drawing on Dec. 16.
Single, living in a house that’s paid for, up-to-date on his financial commitments, and retired for the past three years, he said he’ll be putting his winnings away so he can rent a little happiness when the weather is a little nicer. For him, that means a trip to someplace nice, like Hawaii, the Bahamas or a cruise.
But the lifelong Baltimore resident doesn’t like to take a trip to someplace where the weather is nice only to return to the cold, damp and dark of a Maryland winter.
Plus, he just got back from a trip to the Bahamas.
Between now and his next trip, he plans to enjoy the company of his family, including nieces and nephews, during the holidays and beyond.
He says he enjoys playing a variety of Lottery games, will continue to do so, and picks numbers that mean something to him when he plays.
The attraction: “Instant gratification!”
Few things in life other than getting the surprise of a win offer that kind of feeling, he said.
But when it comes to real happiness, he says that comes from “love and peace.”
Sharing in his financial good fortune is the spot where he bought his winning Pick 5 ticket, Plaza Liquors at 5722 Wabash Avenue in Baltimore, which receives a bonus of $500.
