A Rosedale man is still celebrating his birthday after the lucky numbers led to a $50,000 Pick 5 win for him on April 12. He was getting gas when catching a glimpse of a birthday gift prompted him to buy a ticket.
The winner celebrated a birthday in March and his mother gave him a special gift that he has been carrying around with him. While getting gas at the Golden Ring Exxon in Rosedale on April 12, he pulled the item out and immediately felt that he should buy a Pick 5 ticket using his birthday numbers, 32370.
The restaurant owner purchased a $1 Pick 5 straight bet ticket and a $1 box ticket for the drawing that night. He put away his tickets and went to work. The good news that he won was delivered by his family that evening.
“My wife and daughter knew the numbers I played and checked for me,” he said May 21 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. “They called and said I won $50,000”
The big winner said he didn’t trust what they were saying at first, but when he checked the winning numbers himself, he saw they were telling the truth. In addition to matching the numbers straight for $50,000, he also had the winning box ticket for an additional $800. Excited, he hid his ticket in a safe and called the store where he purchased his games.
“They said I could cash the $800 winner there, but I had to go to the Lottery to cash the $50,000,” he said smiling.
So, the lucky guy made an appointment and claimed the $50,000 prize. He shared with Lottery officials that he plans to save the winnings to go towards a college fund for his children.
The winning ticket was purchased at Golden Ring Exxon at 8605 Philadelphia Road in Rosedale. The Baltimore County retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
