Boredom-Busting Scratch-off Gives Salisbury Man a $50,000 Prize

Wicomico County resident buys instant ticket while waiting at pharmacy

A Salisbury area man’s boredom turned into excitement when he decided to kill some time playing the Power Spot Multiplier scratch-off. He won its $50,000 top prize!

“I was waiting around for my wife’s medicine and I was tired of waiting. Then I walked around the store and bought a scratch-off,” said the 71-year-old.

The retired government employee plays scratch-offs a few times a week and has only won a few hundred dollars in the past. He was waiting at Walmart #1890 in Salisbury to pick up medicine from the pharmacy when he decided to try his luck with the $5 Power Spot Multiplier instant ticket. Realizing he won $50,000, the happy husband remained calm and kept quiet about his newfound fortune.

“I didn’t want to broadcast this news until I went home,” he explained.

Once back at his house, the winner shared the news with his wife. The Wicomico County resident plans to use some of his money on home improvement projects.

Sharing in the fun win is the Salisbury Walmart at 2702 North Salisbury Boulevard in Wicomico County. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, the store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

The Power Spot Multiplier went on sale on Sept. 19. The Wicomico County resident is the fifth $50,000 winner, leaving three top-prize winning scratch-offs unclaimed along with prizes ranging from $5 to $5,000. Power Spot Multiplier is the 16th most popular game in the Maryland Lottery Top 40 Scratch-offs list.
