Bowie Man’s $59,054 SLINGO® Win Prompts Shift to FAST PLAY Games

For several decades, a Prince George’s County man said on Oct. 6, scratch-off tickets have been his favorite kind of Lottery game. His long track record of instant wins, as impressive as it is, does not, however, add up the $59,054 prize he was in Baltimore to collect. SLINGO®, the $3 FAST PLAY game responsible for his big win, has moved to the top spot on his Lottery list.

“I’d buy FAST PLAY tickets once in a while,” the correctional officer said. “But only after I’d gotten the scratch tickets I wanted. FAST PLAY was sort of an afterthought.”

He kept to that old routine when he was filling up the gas tank at Hampton Mall Exxon one night in late September. Scratch-offs first and then, with the $3 left in his pocket, a FAST PLAY SLINGO® ticket.

“The scanner told me to ‘Take to Lottery.’ I’d never seen that before,” he said. Just in case his confusion was caused by a misbehaving scanner, the Bowie resident drove to a nearby retailer to check his SLINGO® ticket.

“It was the same thing, same message. So, I took it to the counter to ask the clerk to check. That’s when it all became clear,” he said.

The winner’s wife said that when he called her with the news, he’d never sounded so excited.

The lucky gas station that helped make this story happen is at 8901 Central Avenue in Capitol Heights. They’ll receive a $590.54 bonus for selling the progressive jackpot winner.

This win marked the close of the Lottery’s SLINGO® game.

College expenses will be the first stop for the Bowie family’s $59,054 FAST PLAY win.
