Sallie Drake and Tania Shreve each won cash and scratch-offs when they played the Unlock the Cash Second-Chance Promotion Live Game at Lottery headquarters.
The Maryland Lottery recently held the second of three Unlock the Cash Second-Chance Promotion Live Game events, awarding cash and scratch-off prizes. Sallie Drake from Joppatowne and Tania Shreve from Brooklyn Park were randomly selected to participate from more than 126,000 entries.
In the Unlock the Cash Live Game, there are six safes, with cash amounts and/or scratch-off prizes locked away inside. The winners were guaranteed to win between $5,000 and $25,000.
Sallie and Tania took turns selecting safe combinations and inputting the numbers on each safe until they each opened two of the safes. Inside each safe was a sealed envelope with cash amounts ranging from $2,500 to $15,000. After Sallie and Tania each picked their first envelopes, they were directed to open them at the same time to reveal their prizes. Sallie won $2,500 plus $300 worth of Break The Bank scratch-offs, while Tania’s first safe contained an envelope with a $15,000 prize. Tania’s fiancé Tom could be heard cheering her on as she revealed the prize amount.
Excitement grew as they each selected another code and opened their second safe. Lottery host Mike Powell instructed the two winners to wait for the count of three to open their envelopes and find out how much more they each won. Sallie received another $2,500 for a total of $5,000, plus the scratch-offs. Tania’s second envelope contained a $2,500 prize plus $300 worth of scratch-offs, which gave her a total of $17,500 and scratch-offs.
Tania, a grocery store employee and mom, told Lottery officials she looks forward to taking a vacation. Sallie, who is a retired from Johns Hopkins, plans to use her prize to pay it forward to others.
