A regular Maryland Lottery player’s routine Lottery run turned into a $50,000 payday when she uncovered 10 $5,000 prizes on a $5 Cash Scratch Fever scratch-off.
The Capitol Heights woman, who enjoys playing scratch-offs along with Racetrax and Keno, stopped at Central Exxon at 6400 Central Avenue in Capitol Heights, after spending time with her daughter. Among the tickets she purchased was $5 Cash Scratch Fever.
When she returned home, the retiree began scratching her tickets and quickly noticed as she scratched down each line $5,000 prizes and then more $5,000 prizes appeared.
“Oh, that was a mistake,” the winner recalled saying out loud as she realized what she was seeing.
“She immediately called her baby sister, who reviewed the ticket and confirmed the ticket revealed 10 separate $5,000 prizes for a total prize of $50,000.
“Thank you, Jesus,” the winner at Lottery Headquarters in Baltimore on Aug. 25. She claimed her prize with her baby, who was by her side for her big moment.
The player had worked for the Washington, D.C., government before retiring nearly 20 years ago. The winner has no complaints about her post-work life. Describing her nearly 20 years of retirement as “20 wonderful years,” adding, “Retirement is the best job I ever had.”
For selling the $50,000 top prize winning ticket, Central Exxon, receives a $500 bonus. Three more top prizes await Cash Scratch Fever players, as well as five second-tier winners at the $5,000 level.
