Carroll County ‘Pool Shooter’ Racks Up $50,000 Scratch-Off Win

Scratching off a $50,000 prize put “Pool Shooter” of Mt. Airy in the green.

Claims top prize on Ultimate Cash instant ticket

All the Mt. Airy man wanted from Lady Luck was to win the amount of his rent.

“I just paid my rent for the month and I went out and bought a scratch-off,” he explained. “I was hoping to get some of that money back.”

His wish came true! The 55-year-old won that amount and a whole lot more, revealing a $50,000 top prize on the $5 Ultimate Ca$h scratch-off in the Cash Series game.

The lucky winner nicknamed himself “Pool Shooter” for Lottery publicity to reflect his love and success in the game of billiards. He had a top-20 performance during a national pool tournament in Las Vegas in 2017.

“Pool Shooter” said some of his $50,000 prize will go toward a new vehicle to replace his truck, which is at 310,000 miles. “It might be time for a new car or a used car,” he said with a grin. “Pool Shooter” added that he might upgrade the tub at his residence, too. He currently works as a forklift driver at a warehouse.

The Carroll County resident bought his winning instant ticket at Weis Markets #119 at 1001 Twin Arch Road in Mount Airy. The Carroll County grocery store will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a top-prize winning scratch-off of $20,000 or more.

The Ultimate Ca$h instant ticket, one of multiple designs in the Cash Series game, went on sale on June 20. This is the third $50,000 top prize discovered. The game has five more top prizes remaining along with nine $5,000 prizes and more than 740,000 prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
