Change of Routine Brings $50,000 Bonus Match 5 Win

“Lucky Lynne” from Essex added a few extra combinations to her regular Bonus Match 5 bet and won $50,000.

Purchasing a ticket each night for the Maryland Lottery’s Bonus Match 5 drawing is part of a Baltimore County woman’s routine. For $2 she gets three combinations, each with a shot at winning $50,000.

But on July 3, she decided to switch things up by buying nine combinations, which cost $6, and that change made all the difference. She hit for a $50,000 top prize that evening when the daily game was drawn.

“It wasn’t a lucky feeling or anything like that,” the winner, going by the name “Lucky Lynne,” said July 14 when she claimed her prize at Lottery headquarters. “It was just wanting to break out of a rut, to do something differently.”

The thought to change occurred to her as she approached the lottery vending machine in Wing’s Sports Bar in Jessup.

She stuck with her usual game, Bonus Match 5. And she still utilized the quick-pick option to select her combinations. But the extra six combinations for an additional $4 expenditure is what lead her to a $50,000 top prize.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” the Essex resident said. “It was crazy, I was in shock. And then I realized that it was one of those extra lines that had won for me.”

She checked her tickets the next day, on the Fourth of July.

“We sure did celebrate in my house, the holiday and the $50,000. It was one heck of a weekend,” she said.

Wing’s Sports Bar, at 8406 Washington Boulevard, receives a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the top-prize winner.
