Finds $50,000 prize on Show Me $1,000,000! Scratch-off
An enthusiastic scratch-off player decided to try his luck just one more time last week while visiting his favorite Lottery retailer in Elkridge. He hadn’t been a winner on tickets he purchased earlier in the week, but on May 13, the Columbia mechanic fine-tuned his play routine and only bought one instant ticket this time — the Show Me $1,000,000! ticket.
“I decided, ‘Let me try one more time,’” said the father of four. He scanned the $20 game while at the store and, to his surprise and happiness, won $50,000!
“Even I was surprised,” he said, explaining that he at first thought the prize was $50. “I was a little shaky.”
The happy winner immediately signed the back of the instant ticket as instructed by the owner of Meadowridge Wine & Spirits, which is located at 6501 Huntshire Drive in Howard County. He also followed her guidance to tell no one of his big win other than his wife. The 42-year-old winner took the lucky scratch-off home to his wife for safekeeping and then visited Lottery headquarters on May 17 to claim the prize.
A mechanic by trade, the winner buys used cars and tunes them up before reselling them. He plans to pay bills with his second-tier prize from the Show Me $1,000,000! game, which went on sale April 18. The scratch-off offers 30 chances to win and no prize less than $40. None of its six $1,000,000 top prizes have been claimed, yet, and there are still five more $50,000 second-tier prizes and 79 $10,000 prizes.
