Pasadena man wins playing 8th edition of Deluxe Crossword game
Discovering eight words in two puzzles was the key to a big win for a fan of crossword-themed instant tickets. The Anne Arundel County resident bought a $5 Deluxe Crossword 8th edition scratch-off and walked away with a $50,000 top prize.
Last week, when the Pasadena player got off work, he decided to stop at Scott Brothers Wine & Spirits for a beverage and to buy a Deluxe Crossword scratch-off. He played the game in the store, revealing four black words in the instant ticket’s first puzzle and four red words in its second puzzle. That combination leads to a top prize.
“I saw that I had all the words for the big win, but to be sure, I scanned the prize check area,” he said, smiling. “I didn’t believe it until the cashier scanned it one more time.”
When the clerk confirmed that the husband and father was holding a $50,000 winning scratch-off, he immediately went home to share the great news with his wife. “She was so happy,” he recalled.
The winner, who is employed with a tree removal service, told Lottery officials that he plans to use some of the prize for a down payment on a home. Also a winner is the Lottery retailer that sold the lucky scratch-off. Scott Brothers Wine & Spirits located at 936 Bay Ridge Road in Annapolis will receive a $500 Lottery bonus for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.
The 8th Edition of the Deluxe Crossword game went on sale in September 2023 with eight $50,000 top prizes. There are two of them remaining, along with five $10,000 prizes and hundreds of thousands of additional prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000.
