Dad’s Advice Delivers $34,432.50 Racetrax Win to College Student in Hyattsville

A Prince George’s County woman was quick to attribute the $34,432.50 Racetrax prize she claimed Oct. 29 to her father.

When claiming her prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, the winner said playing the Lottery is a bond the pair share, and, while the win is a thrill, the best part for her is experiencing her good fortune with her dad.

“My dad has always loved the Lottery,” the Hyattsville resident explained. “Whenever we’re out together we buy tickets, and it feels like we usually win.” Such was the case last week during a family outing when he recommended that his daughter try a Racetrax ticket.

Unsure of some of the features of the game, the winner got some help when the more experienced player shared his wisdom.

“Dad said a Superfecta Wheel bet was always lucky for him, so I tried it,” the daughter said.

As the 15 races her $30 ticket covered began, the shopping trip moved on with the father and daughter planning to check the results later.

“I was out with my sister that night when my dad called,” the college student said. Even though she’d left her Racetrax ticket with him for safekeeping, the lottery was the last thing on her mind at that moment.

“When he told me that I’d won I didn’t understand at first. When he said $34,000, though, it all came back to me,” she said.

Calverton Exxon at 4040 Powder Mill Road in Beltsville sold the winning Racetrax ticket. The Prince George’s County business receives a $344.32 bonus from the Lottery for having done so. The winner said her family has enjoyed two or three happy events in recent months, and that some of her winnings will go toward celebrating these with them.
