Dundalk Mom Races to Claim $50,000 Powerball Prize

Chasing a Powerball jackpot brings luck to unsuspecting player

A Baltimore County woman was speechless after claiming a $50,000 prize she won playing Powerball in the March 23 drawing.

The anonymous winner, who favors Powerball, Mega Millions and scratch-offs, said she’s been a dedicated player during the last two years. The Dundalk resident found herself buying a Powerball ticket a few days before her lucky drawing because the estimated jackpot annuity had risen to $750 million.

The married woman made her purchase at Drug City Pharmacy located at 2805 North Point Road in Baltimore. She and her family members often pick up medications and last-minute necessities at the store. The winner said she normally checks her tickets for a win at night, but she got off late from work and didn’t have the time or energy to do so.

The married mom has always hoped and dreamed of winning a big Powerball prize.

“I played random numbers,” she said. “I was on my way to work and I had some extra cash and figured, ‘Why not take a chance?’”

She bought a $4 ticket that day at the Baltimore County Lottery retailer. The drawing came and went and then she checked for a win.

“I scanned my ticket and the message said I was a $50,000 winner! I was speechless. I just wanted to cash it in quickly so I could have the money in my hands,” said the player.

When asked how she plans to spend her prize, the lucky woman looked at her husband and kids with her at Lottery headquarters and said she’ll spend it on her family. She also hopes to invest some of the funds.

No one has hit the jackpot since Jan. 1, 2024 and the estimated annuity for the Wednesday, March 27 drawing is $865 million with an estimated cash option of $416.1 million. This is the fifth largest Powerball jackpot in the game’s history.
