Eastern Shore Racetrax Enthusiast Scores Second Big Win of the Summer

For the second time in a two-month span, an Eastern Shore fan of the Maryland Lottery’s animated horseracing game Racetrax has won a substantial prize, this time a $39,969 score on Aug. 27.

“I usually play 20 races, then follow the results on my phone,” the Queen Anne’s County residence said Aug. 28 when he claimed his winnings at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

“I play regularly,” he said, noting that he just enjoys the thrill of the game. “I play within my means,” he added. Even as he was claiming his big prize, he had a second winning ticket for a smaller amount in his pocket he planned to cash out on his way home.

His previous win, for a prize of $31,521, came on June 30 on a ticket purchased at the same location, the Citgo gas station at 426 South Commerce Street in Centreville.

For both wins, he played the Trifecta Wheel style bet, one of the most complicated in the Racetrax selections. This time he selected horses 11 to finish first, 5 to finish second and either 10 or 12 to finish third. For selling the winning ticket, Citgo receives a bonus of $399.69, equal to 1% of the prize total.
