Elkton Man’s Morning Routine Upended with $50,000 Scratch-off Win

Discovers top prize on Extreme Green instant ticket

A retired truck driver from Elkton said his morning routine typically involves a trip to a local convenience store to buy coffee and scratch-offs and then a quiet return trip home.

That changed on a recent day in December when he chose to buy his coffee and instant tickets at Wawa #8512 in Elkton. He made his purchase and brought the games out to his vehicle, where he played the Extreme Green ticket. He planned to then go home to enjoy his coffee and the rest of his scratch-offs. But when he saw he had matched a winning number on the Extreme Green game, the lucky player recalls saying to himself, “I’ve got a winner here!” He then revealed the prize underneath and that’s when his quiet morning became an exciting one instead.

“I said, ‘Something is wrong!’” the winner recalled as he visited Lottery Headquarters with his son to claim his $50,000 top-prize win.

After realizing he was a big winner, he immediately drove home. “That’s when I called my son. I said, ‘You have to come look at this.’ I was so surprised.”

His son confirmed the lucky win on the $5 game. “It’s a blessing,” the dad said. Our winner said he plans to split the prize with his son, saying, “He’s a life saver for me.”

They plan to put the newfound fortune in the bank initially and will look for investment opportunities. The winner may also buy a treadmill so he can continue exercising indoors during the winter.

His lucky Cecil County Lottery retailer benefits from his win, too. Wawa #8512 located at 302 Pulaski Highway in Elkton earns a $500 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off.

There are plenty of prizes remaining in this game, which went on sale in July. Players can try to win four more $50,000 top prizes, five $5,000 prizes and 11 $1,000 prizes.
