‘Family’ Numbers Add Up to $50,000 Pick 5 win

Montgomery County man thrilled by lucky score

He plays two or three times a week “and always the same numbers,” said the Silver Spring resident visiting Lottery headquarters on Wednesday. Those numbers – a combination of his kids’ birthdays – proved very lucky in the Aug. 22 midday Pick 5 drawing, coming out just as he’d hoped and delivering a $50,000 win.

“I was walking my dog when I checked my ticket on the Lottery app,” said the rehabilitation counselor. “I literally jumped for joy.” Calling his wife as he hurried home, the 58-year-old shared the good news and his excitement was contagious. “She was very, very happy, sort of laughing and crying on the phone.”

The Montgomery County couple, along with their extended family, experienced a pre-vacation nightmare recently that involved payments gone missing. While they continue looking into the unusual situation, their Lottery surprise will do much to make them whole.

“I’m sure we will get this all figured out eventually, but this does ease the worry for all of us,” the winner said. He bought his $1 straight bet Pick 5 ticket at Giant #366 located at 8750 Arliss Street in Silver Spring. For its role in the big win, the Montgomery County grocery will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
