A $2 quick-pick ticket gave Tawny Barnwell of Frederick a $540,000 Multi-Match jackpot win.
Joyful noise woke up her husband after she checked tickets at midnight
Who says nothing good happens after midnight? Tawny Barnwell of Frederick screamed with joy at that hour after realizing she won a $540,000 Multi-Match jackpot to begin her new day.
The Frederick County resident said she was home checking her Multi-Match tickets during the midnight hour when she spotted a perfect match with the winning numbers in the June 20 drawing.
“I looked at it. I looked at it and I kept looking at it. I couldn’t believe it,” Tawny said, recalling her disbelief when she saw her jackpot win. “It was astonishing.”
Tawny plays every Multi-Match drawing and had the terminal quick pick the numbers for the $4 ticket. The retail worker recalls screaming with joy all over the house and having her husband wake up to the excitement. The Frederick County resident plans to put her prize toward a new house and spend some of the funds on her grandchildren.
The avid Orioles fan drives down to Baltimore a few times a month to watch a game. She also likes to fish so buying a boat could join her list of ways to enjoy her prize.
She bought the winning ticket at the Mt. Airy Exxon located at 4400 Mill Bottom Road in Frederick County. Tawny said a Lottery retailer across the street from the Exxon displays a banner promoting the store’s sale of a big winning Lottery ticket. She is happy that her retailer is also a winner, as the business will receive a $1,000 Lottery bonus for selling the jackpot-winning ticket along with a promotional banner to display.
