The Snider family from Gambrills is on the hunt for a bigger house after dad Gregory Snider claimed a second-tier Cash4Life prize of $1 million

“I’m ecstatic!” the 33-year-old heavy equipment operator said while claiming the prize June 17 at Maryland Lottery headquarters. Greg and his wife, Sarah Brown, have two sons and a daughter and are pressed for space in their current home. They have been laying the groundwork to move to a bigger place.

“We’ve been saving to do it. This will give it to us now,” Greg said, adding, “We want to give our kids a better life.”

Part of that better life will be taking a family vacation, something they haven’t been able to do in several years.

Sarah is typically more of a Lottery player than Greg, they both acknowledged.

“My wife plays more than me,” he said, adding that he enjoys playing from time to time. But there was a bit more of a story behind his purchase of a winning Cash4Life ticket.

“For the past three weeks, I’ve been having dreams about coming into a lot of money,” he said. Then, on June 15, he was at the Wawa store at 8300 Veterans Highway in Millersville buying his usual morning coffee.

“It was like the machine was pulling me in,” he said. He used the Lottery’s self-service vending machine to buy 10 quick pick tickets for that evening’s Cash4Life drawing, then went to work as usual. After the drawing when he checked his tickets, the scanner flashed that he had won $1 million. Second-tier winners in Cash4Life has the choice of $1,000 a week for life (paid in annual installments) or a one-time payment of $1 million.

“I hit all five numbers, but not the Cash Ball,” he said. Though the couple are happy about the life-changing win, the extra money will not change their attitude toward their jobs. After claiming the prize, Greg was feeling a bit chatty, and Sarah gently reminded him: “I have to get to work tonight.”

Sharing in the Gambrills family’s good fortune is the Wawa store, which picks up a bonus of $2,500 from the Lottery for selling the second-tier winner.

The top-tier prize in the multi-state game Cash4Life is $1,000 a day for life, and drawings are every day at 9 p.m. Cash4Life is sold in 10 states. Maryland joined the game in 2016 and has had three top-tier winners and seven second-tier winners.
