Meal stop in Cumberland leads to fortuitous change of Lottery routine
A pair of avid Maryland Lottery players from Glen Burnie were on the road a few hours to the west in Cumberland on Feb. 5, when they picked up Lottery tickets. They wound up winning $50,000 in the Bonus Match 5 drawing that evening.
The two were visiting their grandchildren and stopped for a meal at Love’s Travel Stop #537 in Cumberland. Rather than wait until they returned home to Anne Arundel County, the players decided to buy their daily round of Lottery tickets. The pair went with three sets of Bonus Match 5 numbers for $2, using the quick-pick option on one set of numbers.
The change of routine proved fortuitous. When the numbers were drawn that evening, they matched with their quick-pick set of numbers for a $50,000 top-prize win.
Substantial though it may be, the prize isn’t the score they hope to win eventually. They will continue to play other Lottery jackpot games in anticipation of winning a jackpot. They have picked up enough prizes in the past to keep the game interesting.
Their Lottery retailer is also in the Winner’s Circle. For selling a top-prize winning Bonus Match 5 ticket, Love’s Travel Stop #537 located at 13300 Ali Ghan Road Northeast picks up a bonus of $500 from the Lottery. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
Bonus Match 5 drawings take place seven days a week. Players select five numbers ranging from 1 to 39. The Bonus Ball drawn from the remaining 34 numbers provides extra chances to win. Your ticket is a winner if you match five, four or three of the original five winning numbers selected in the drawing. If you match the Bonus Ball number, you only need to match four, three or two of your original numbers to win.
