Nine other winners from across the state won between $2,500 and $11,500
Ten Marylanders were selected to participate in the Lottery’s Sizzling Summer Cash State Fair event on Aug. 31 where one lucky winner had the chance to step into a cash machine to grab as many “$1,000 bills” as possible in 30 seconds.
The day started with the winners each picking envelopes that were numbered 1 through 10. Five of those envelopes delivered a “Cash & Scratch” prize of $2,500 in cash and $200 of Ravens scratch-offs. The remaining five participants moved on to the next round, and one would be the Finalist who got to spend 30 seconds in the cash machine. Excitement grew as Lottery hosts teased the winners with a drawn-out countdown before all 10 opened their envelopes.
Once the envelopes were opened, Heather Simmons of Glen Burnie learned she was the lucky Finalist. The four others who moved on to the next round with her would each win half of the amount that Heather grabbed during her 30 seconds in the machine.
With the four runners-up and Heather’s family in the crowd cheering her on, she entered the cash machine and grabbed 23 pieces of flying pieces of paper, each representing $1,000.
In the end, Heather won $23,000 and the four runners-up each took home $11,500. With her prize, Heather plans to pay credit card bills and take a cruise.
The 10 winners were selected on Aug. 6 through a My Lottery Rewards promotion that attracted more than 77,000 entries.
In addition to Heather, the nine other winners were:
$11,500:
- Patricia Coates from Waverly
- Juan Marquez from Montgomery Village
- Sherman McDaniel from Mitchellville
- Claudia Tempo from Urbana
$2,500 + $200 worth of Scratch-offs:
- Fred Begosh from Damascus
- Arthur Clarke from Woodbine
- Andre Taylor from Annapolis
- Paul Vitek from Gaithersburg
- Sonya Washington from Cheltenham
Heather Simmons was one of 10 Lottery winners who won cash prizes at the Sizzling Summer Cash State Fair event.
