Grandmother’s Influence Leads to $50K Lottery Win for Annapolis Man

Following the path of a grandmother who enjoyed playing the Lottery, an Annapolis resident took up scratching tickets and recently ended up claiming a $50,000 prize on the $5 Money Maker scratch-off.

The winner stopped by Maryland Lottery headquarters Feb. 2 to claim the prize and share his story. His interest in the Lottery dates to when he would watch his grandmother play. Specifically, he recalls seeing his grandmother win from time to time, and that experience that left a lasting impression. When he became old enough to play, he picked up the hobby himself. Now in his 30s, he continues to enjoy it.

These days he says he plays weekly and finds the experience entertaining. He credits his grandmother’s influence not only for inspiring his hobby, but also for his recent win.

The $50,000 winning ticket was purchased at the Sunoco at 1207 Forest Drive in Annapolis, which receives a bonus of $500.

The winner shared that he plans to invest in himself by purchasing a new truck, which he hopes will help him start a business.

He also says he plans to continue playing Maryland Lottery games, adding, “After you win, you want to keep playing so you can win again.”
