Hagerstown Man Buys Last-Minute Ticket, Wins $50,000

Lucky player claims third-tier prize in Jan. 28 drawing

A Western Maryland man who enjoys playing Maryland Lottery jackpot games nearly forgot to buy his Powerball ticket for the Saturday, Jan. 28 drawing. He makes it a point to buy Powerball tickets and, in this case, a last-minute purchase led to a $50,000 prize.

The 43-year-old made a quick run that night to The Corner Pub located at 158 South Mulberry Street in Hagerstown. The Washington County resident bought a quick-pick ticket for one drawing, adding both Power Play and Double Play to increase his chances of winning.

It wasn’t until the next day that the Hagerstown player learned he won. He checked his phone for the winning numbers as soon as he woke up and discovered the great news. The first and only person he told was his father, who was equally as excited. The happy winner plans to use his prize to pay bills.

No one hit the Powerball jackpot in the Saturday, Feb. 11 drawing. Players can try their luck tonight in the Feb. 13 drawing to win an estimated jackpot annuity of $45 million or the cash option of $23.7 million.
