Halethorpe Man’s Anniversary Date Pays $25,000 on Pick 5 Ticket

Winnings going into savings, family trip to Georgia

The four digits have been his Pick 4 combination for years, said the Baltimore County man, who recently started adding a zero and playing the numbers 01219 in Pick 5. That winning combination was worth $25,000 in the June 26 midday drawing.

“I’m pretty good,” the smiling Halethorpe resident said on June 27, repeating the phrase after claiming his prize at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

His go-to Pick 4 number is an anniversary for the winner and his fiancée. The Lottery devotee also played the lucky combination boxed and straight for 50 cents each. In addition to the $25,000 straight-bet prize, he also scored $400 on the boxed ticket.

“I should have played it for a dollar,” he said with a smile. A $1 straight bet on Pick 5 pays $50,000. “Hopefully, I’ll hit it again,” he said, adding that he plans to continue playing the same combination.

The winner, his fiancée and their four children ages 8 to 13 are planning a family vacation to Atlanta, Ga., and the extra money from the win will come in handy, he said. Mainly, though, he will put the money into savings because of the unanticipated expenses that can arise for families.

Sharing in the player’s good fortune is his Lottery retailer, Giant #166 located at 4622 Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore. The Baltimore County grocery picks up a Lottery bonus of $250 for selling a $25,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
