“Robert and Linda” brought Halloween to the Maryland Lottery headquarters after they won $30,000 playing the 30X Cash scratch-off.
Halloween is more than a week away, but a Montgomery County couple celebrated early after winning $30,000 on the Lottery’s 30X Cash scratch-off. The Halloween enthusiasts, who are using the alias “Robert and Linda,” arrived at Lottery headquarters Oct. 19 with masks in hand. Instead of trick-or-treating for candy, the couple’s treat was Robert’s $30,000 prize.
According to the big winner, he was drinking his Saturday morning coffee at home and decided to check out some scratch-offs he had purchased. He started scratching away and discovered instantly he had a winning ticket.
“I won $5,000 on the third line down and kept going,” Robert said.
The further he went down the ticket, the more money they won. The $5,000 prizes kept popping up until the couple accumulated six for the $30,000 top prize.
“I couldn’t believe it. I took a picture and put it in my safe,” he said.
“Robert and Linda” plan to use the prize toward their children’s education.
The ticket was purchased at the 7-Eleven at 22702 Gosnell Farm Drive in Boyds. For selling the winning scratch-off, the Montgomery County store receives a $300 bonus.
30X Cash launched on Sept. 18 with a total of 320 top prizes of $30,000. As of Oct. 20, six of those have been claimed, including a retired police officer from Baltimore who redeemed his ticket Oct. 13 and a Fort Washington resident who took home a $30,000 prize on Oct. 16. The ticket also has tens of thousands of additional prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
30X Cash, a $30 game, went on sale on Sept. 18 with the 320 top prizes of $30,000. Over 300 $30,000 top prizes remain, along with tens of thousands of prizes ranging from $30 to $5,000.
