Harford County Man Scratches His Way to $30,000 Lottery Win

A Darlington man recently scratched his way to a $30,000 top prize playing the Maryland Lottery’s 30X Cash, a $30 game.

The occasional Lottery player prefers to try his luck only when he has a feeling or some extra cash to spend, he said Oct. 22 when he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. After a long day at work and sporting a little extra money in his pocket, he stopped at Royal Farms before heading home. It was, he decided, a good time to give the Lottery a try.

His first ticket proved to be a winner, though for a relatively small amount. Rather than calling it a day, however, he used his winnings to purchase the ticket that ended up giving him a $30,000 payday.

“I couldn’t believe I won, I hurried home to tell my wife,” he said.

Since discovering his good fortune, the winner has kept the news lowkey, sharing the secret only with his wife. Although he hasn’t decided what to do with his prize money, he knows saving some of the windfall is a good place to start.

As for his future Lottery plans, the Darlington man intends to keep things casual. He’ll play when he’s feeling lucky or has a little extra money to spend, same as always.

The Royal Farms at 10740 Pulaski Highway in White Marsh receives a $300 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
