Andre Jones of Baltimore combined his late mother’s favorite numbers with his own digit to win a $50,000 Pick 5 prize.
Finance employee added one number to her favorite digits to win a top prize
A Baltimore man who spends his life working with numbers created a special combination recently. He used his late mother’s four lucky numbers plus one of his own to win $50,000 playing Pick 5.
Andre Jones explained that his mom favored the Pick 4 combination of 9152 and he started to play those numbers for his Pick 4 games. Then, he decided to place a $1 straight bet on Pick 5 and added a 1 to create the number 91521. Andre said he has only played that number for the last few months.
“I kept having that number in my head and decide it was time to play that number again,” he said.
His strategy paid off. Andre checked the winning Pick 5 numbers on his phone one day and saw his lucky number was drawn on the evening of Dec. 11.
“I looked at it and was like, ‘Wow, I won!’ I couldn’t believe it,” he said.
The Baltimore City resident works in finance and is still undecided on how he is going to spend his prize. He likes to go to the gym, spend time with his family and is an avid Ravens fan.
Andre said he has never won anything close to $50,000 before. He noted that his experience shows a big win can happen to anyone. “Just keep playing and don’t change up your numbers,” the big winner said.
The loyal player bought the lucky ticket at ToTo Market, which is located at 3949 Erdman Avenue in Baltimore. For selling the $50,000 winning ticket, the retailer receives a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
