Laurel Player Plans to Help Daughter Using $50,000 Scratch-Off Prize

Winner sticks to instant games because ‘they’re easy to play’

A scratch-off enthusiast from Laurel has won a lot of three-digit prizes over the years, but got a pleasant surprise recently when he won $50,000 on the $20 $50,000 Cash game.

“I only play scratch-offs,” he proclaimed Jan. 30 at Maryland Lottery headquarters while claiming his prize.

His reason for preferring scratch-off games to draw games: “They’re easy to play.” Playing them, he said, is exactly what he plans to continue doing. As for his winnings, “My daughter is getting married next month, so that will help.”

Sharing in the good times is Bell’s Drive-in Liquors at 5901 Central Avenue in Capitol Heights. For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off in the game, the Prince George’s County business will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

The $50,000 Cash game went on sale Dec. 29 with 160 top prizes at the $50,000 level and quickly shot to the No. 2 spot on the Maryland Lottery’s Top 40 Scratch-Offs list. As of Jan. 31, a total of 144 of the top tier prizes remained unclaimed, along with thousands of other prizes ranging from $20 to $5,000.
