Scrambled plate numbers deliver big prize in May 17 midday drawing
An avid Pick 3 and Pick 4 player from Baltimore County waited a few weeks before trying his luck with the Pick 5 game that started in February. Not long after he started playing, he selected a license plate number, scrambled the digits, and began playing the numbers consistently in midday and evening drawings.
Smaller wins up to $2,700 came his way until May 17, when the Randallstown man placed a $1 straight bet on the numbers 48548. The father of three and grandpa of three won $50,000 in the midday drawing!
“I always play the same number and stick with it,” said the lucky winner, who works as a utility company manager and, at the end of the day, checks the midday Pick 5 winning numbers using the Lottery app. He often watches the live evening Lottery drawings on WBAL-TV. “I think if I had watched this one on TV, I would have fallen out of my seat.”
The first person he told of his good fortune was his wife, the winner said. They plan to put the prize into savings and might get a few extra treats for their dog.
The lucky ticket was purchased at the winner’s favorite Lottery retailer, Brenbrook Shell located at 8712 Liberty Road in Randallstown. “It’s my morning routine,” he said. “I go in and play my numbers for midday and evening, put my ticket in my pocket and off to work I go.”
For its role in the lucky ticket sale, the Baltimore County retailer will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
