Frederick County man claims $100,000 top prize on Snow Globe 7s game
“I went there for a loaf of bread and I left with a load of cash,” said a happy Frederick County man, who found a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off at an area grocery store.
A loyal player during the last decade, he returned to the Lottery Winner’s Circle on Friday to claim the biggest prize of his life. The anonymous player won $100,000 on a Snow Globe 7s scratch-off, claiming the second of the $10 game’s nine top prizes.
He and his wife are both avid Lottery players, the winner said, and they have each won big prizes of $50,000 along with second-chance prizes through My Lottery Rewards. Winning isn’t new but winning such a large amount is.
The grandfather was on his way home from work when he stopped at a Weis in Boonsboro to buy a loaf of bread. He picked up some Lottery tickets, and as usual, he scratched them in the store but that’s when his routine Lottery play stopped. The winner revealed a “7” on the third line of the game and, beneath the symbol, was his $100,000 prize.
“I got a little excited,” he recalled, but noted that he kept his jubilation to himself while in the store. “When you win something like that, you want to keep it on the down low.”
The happy husband arrived home, put the lucky scratch-off on a desk in the living room and suggested his wife might want to check out the instant ticket. She didn’t react the way he expected so he added, “You might want to look at it a little closer.”
She did and their celebration began. They haven’t told anyone about their Lottery luck and plan to keep the news to themselves. The prize will go in the bank, he said, and fund some more scratch-off fun along the way.
His lucky Lottery retailer can share in the excitement, too. Weis Markets #178 at 700 Chase Six Boulevard in Washington County earns a $1,000 bonus from the Lottery for selling a $100,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. Plenty of prizes remain in this holiday-themed scratch-off, which went on sale in October as part of the Holiday Cash second-chance promotion.
Now through Jan. 15, players can enter their non-winning holiday scratch-offs and any of three holiday-themed FAST PLAY games into My Lottery Rewards for the chance to win $5,000 or $100,000. Five winners are selected each week for 12 weeks to win $5,000 each. During the final week, two additional winners will win $100,000 each.
